Cap-n-gown photography sessions are filled with joy and excitement!
This is a fun time to celebrate a wonderful milestone and it offers the chance to reflect on the journey that brought you to this moment!
During cap-n-gown sessions, I love hearing the stories about which door they entered through for HS and why. The field where they played field hockey or the path they walked to get to their college classes. It is more than "just" a photo, it is the story behind the photo which is their story...your story!
When taking your cap-n-gown photos, think about those stories and what you want to share through your photo.
Congratulations to these five seniors who are graduating from High School and College! I am so excited for your next chapter!
Walking Towards The Camera
This is my favorite way to start almost every senior photoshoot, walking toward the camera. It is a fun way to relax any nervousness about being in front of the camera. When walking towards the camera, I will guide them to look to the right, look down, look at their friend, and their parent, and look at the camera. It always brings smiles and sets a fun tone for the rest of the session.
Gown Over The Shoulder
We fold the gown so that it's easy to hold and if there is an emblem that needs to be visible, resting on the shoulder. It can feel like an awkward hold, so I will get it ready for them and put it on their shoulder to allow them to reach back and hold the gown.
This is a great image to frame and use for graduation thank-you cards.
Walking Or Standing And Looking Back At The Camera
This is fun after they do the pose when they walk towards the camera, to have them turn around and walk away slowly. Every few steps look back at the camera. They can stand and look back, too. This can be used by holding the gown over the shoulder. Many different varieties with one pose.
Holding Cap to the Sky
You can use this with other poses, either walking towards you, walking away, or standing still.
